What is GRCTM?

The Greater Richmond Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GRCTM), a professional resource for mathematics educators at all levels, was founded in 1965. The Council has three purposes:

  • encouraging an active interest in and an appreciation of mathematics;
  •  affording a medium for exchange of views regarding the teaching of mathematics; and
  •  promoting cooperative study of problems of mathematics education at all levels.

In order to accomplish the above purposes, the Council supports teachers of mathematics at all levels by:

  • offering two outstanding professional development opportunities in its Fall and Spring Conferences:
  • publishing an informative newsletter, The Great Circle, three times per year;
  •  awarding Professional Development Grants to teachers seeking to further their knowledge through coursework, institute attendance, or participation in a special project; and
  •  recognizing one individual annually with the GRCTM Distinguished Service Award.

The Council encourages interest in mathematics in students in grades K-12 with these annual activities:

GRCTM has active affiliation with the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics and with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. NCTM publications and products are available for purchase at the Fall and Spring GRCTM Conferences.

The Council seeks to support you in your endeavors to deliver quality mathematics education. Share with a Board member your thoughts and suggestions about how YOUR Council can grow!
